Clos Pegase, 'Mitsuko' Merlot, Carneros District - 1996
In the Napa Valley, 1996 was a glorious vintage where the vines held off ripening until the splendid Indian summer of October, when the day length is short and the promise long. This single-vineyard offering displays in spades silky mouthfeel and spicy red currant character inherent in the Carneros fruit. After a lengthy elevage in our cool, naturally climate-controlled, underground caves, this cuvée was blended and bottled without filtration. Its elegant balance and fine tannin texture guarantee long cellaring and many years of pleasurable drinking. Deep in colour. Dense but with sumptuous plummy fruit. Herbal tones add a fascinating spicy character. Enjoy.

Havens, Merlot, Napa Valley - 1997
One of Napa's most respected Merlots. Flavours are rich with spice, vanilla and ripe berry fruit, well balanced and structured. This 1997 has a deep colour with a nose reminiscent of red currant and ripe cherries with hints of mint. Its elegant structure is complimented by a round, lush texture and a long finish. The high percentage of Cabernet Franc and Merlot provide the wine its suppleness and its fresh and complex nose. The wine is enjoyable to drink now or within the next decade. Michael Havens recommends decanting this wine before serving it to develop its full potential.

Robert Sinskey Vineyards, Merlot, Stag's Leap District - 1997
Stunning Napa Valley Merlot, recently named one of Wine & Spirits Top 10 Merlots of 2003! Aromas and flavours of spice and black cherry predominate, with an appealing balance and long, velvety finish. This age worthy wine will bring enjoyment for many years. "A fine expression of merlot: the lasting red berry fruit, the tender texture and soft, feminine grace. It not only tastes like merlot, it has some staying power. The sweet tart strawberry flavour has a charry edge of tannin, a dusty cocoa grip that lingers with the tender fruit. This should grow up well."
