Considered by some to be the best of Italy’s white wines, Pietra Marina is a dazzling wine that speaks of elegance, pedigree and age-worthiness. Pale yellowish colour with bright greenish tints. Pietra Marina's aromas are delicate and fruity with subtle notes of ripe apple along with a distinctive minerality. The palate is dry with a refreshing acidity and nice aromatic persistence including appealing undertones of fresh almond and aniseed. Exquisite elegance, refinement with added energy in the glass. It is clearly a cut above many other examples of Carraicante.
From 80-year-old bush vines, this Carricante grows in the sandy, volcanic soils on the eastern slope of Etna in the comune of Milo at an altitude of 950m. Like many of Etna's grapes, Carricante ripens late due to the large range in diurnal temperature and is harvested in the last week of October before being softly and slowly pressed. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. Pietramarina is left to mature for 2 years before bottling and further ageing in bottle for 10-12 months before its release.

The Domaine
Benanti is a family-run, exclusive winery located on the slopes of the Etna Volcano in Sicily and is among the most prominent producers of fine wines in Italy. In fact they are credited with much of the revolution in Sicilian wine making, particularly from Etna. Wine has been produced by the Benanti family for several generations, mostly for private consumption, until Giuseppe Benanti, in his late sixties, decided to establish a professional winery in 1988. He revived the family's old passion, with an extensive and selective study of the Etnean soils as he is immensely devoted to viticulture. Benanti wines show the volcanic origins of the vineyards and how Nerello Mascalese is the perfect vehicle to express the Mountain’s flavours. Giuseppe’s aim was to spread the culture of Etna wines among a community of Italian and international wine lovers alike.

Benanti is recognised as an indigenous winery with an international mindset. Local family, local people, local grape varietals, local pride, local values... and a niche of discerning customers which spans the globe.

Today the Benanti winery is run by twin brothers Antonio and Salvino, in their forties. Both are passionate and international-minded Sicilians who have returned home to follow their father Giuseppe’s footsteps after spending several years abroad in Switzerland and the UK, with the aim of taking the winery to new heights.
