Satin-Smooth Corbières made by our friends at their mini-coop in the village of Embres. This is a wine that explodes with smooth, young, ripe black fruits. The blend of Carignan, Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault gives a soft, easy-drinking style with luscious red and black flavours. Silky palate with with a touch of spiciness. This wine makes us feel hungry! Lamb casserole, roast beef, roast chicken would go perfectly. If there was ever a perfect example of an inexpensive wine that can be enjoyed everyday, it would be Castelmaure 2013. The truth is – it's sensational!

The Domaine
The Cave de Castelmaure is nestled in Corbières between Perpignan and Narbonne and was founded in the 1920’s. This cooperative is one of France’s most dynamic, innovative and colourful coop. Grower Patrick de Marien and winemaker Bernard Pueyo are at the helm of the Cave de Castelmaure and produce wines that are festive, contemporary and above all supremely delicious. Even the labels are modern with class and a certain effervescence.
The vineyard - over 350 ha - on arid soils is farmed sustainably and treatments are kept to a minimum. The region being wind-swept with craggy, sun-baked mountains, the harvest is in majority done by hand. The Grenache, Carignan, Syrah, Cinsault and Mourvèdre thrive there!
We have been working with this gifted and professional bunch of friendly people at Cave de Castelmaure for nearly two decades and we never never cease to be amazed by the admirable quality of their wines - from the simplest to the most complex ones. The consistency of the winemaking, the quality of the wines, and the great values they present make Cave de Castelmaure a treasure to have on our shelves. Bravo!

"My favorite of this trio is the least-oaked example, the 2012 Corbieres (50% Carignan and the rest Grenache and Syrah) displaying classic southern France notes of garrigue, wild herbs, sweet red and black currants, dusty, loamy soil and incense. The complex aromatics are followed by a fleshy, lush, velvety-textured, medium-bodied wine with loads of fruit and personality. This excellent Corbieres should drink nicely for another 2-3 years.
