Wine Comments
Krug Clos du Mesnil, a very rare Champagne, showcases the unique character of a single plot of Chardonnay, harvested in 1989. The 1.84-hectare vineyard overlooked by the village church has been protected by walls since 1698. It is located in the heart of Mesnil-sur-Oger, one of the most iconic villages for Chardonnay in the Champagne region. Krug’s savoir-faire has successfully revealed the calm purity and indulgence of grapes of this single plot in the year 1989, enhanced by over ten years in the cellar, thus gaining finesse and elegance.

The Domaine
The grandest of the Grande Marques.
Johann-Joseph Krug, who was born in Mainz, founded Champagne Krug in 1843, having previously worked at Jacquesson and marrying Adolphe Jacquesson's sister-in-law. The Company is still controlled by the Krug family - Olivier Krug being the current incumbent - although ownership was sold to LVMH in 1999.
Krug are the only House to barrel ferment all their wines - in "de-seasoned" 205 litre casks of Argonne oak. The rich Krug style also comes from prolonged lees ageing and the very high proportion of reserve wines in the blend.

Food Pairing
Enjoy with seafood and fish - especially freshwater varieties in a light sauce. Wonderful with a plate of oysters, or a selection of fresh goats cheese... and would make any early summer picnic special!
