'This 100 per cent syrah from the Gigondas area has deep colour and a spicy, earthy, graphite and violet aroma, with little or no oak influence Dark cherry, too. Full, round palate with flesh and fruit sweetness, finishing with gently drying tannin.

The Domaine
St Cosme is without doubt one of the very best producers in France, let alone the southern Rhone.
The winery dates back to 1490 and owns some of the oldest vines in the Southern Rhone. Winemaker Louis Barruol’s family have owned the estate for generations but it is only under his guidance that it has started to fulfil its potential.
Louis is an evangelist for the terroir of Gigondas and produces several single-vineyard wines to demonstrate its variety and quality. All the wines, from the humble Cote du Rhone to the incredible Gigondas Valbelle, are treated with the same care and attention, technical precision and artistry.

The domaine’s wines are labelled Chateau St Cosme but there are also a number of excellent negociant wines labelled simply ‘St Cosme’.

Press
Robert Parker, whose Wine Advocate newsletter is considered the world’s most influential wine journal, wrote: “If you have not yet tried the wines of St.-Cosme, you’re missing the boat.”
He also wrote: “…there is no more passionate and talented proprietor than Louis Barruol.”

Andrew Jefford’s, author of the book “The New France” (which Parker called “Exceptional, a must buy and read.” and “My book of the year”) wrote: “The ambitious and articulate Louis Barruol is one of the new stars of the southern Rhone – and of the northern Rhone too. Grace, purity, and singing fruit are three of the Barruol hallmarks.”

James Turnbull’s “The Great Wines of France” says “So pure and authentic are Barruol’s wines that Saint Cosme is destined to become one of the great names of the Southern Rhone. A magnificent triumph of old vines and non-interventionism!”

Food Pairing
This is the ideal wine for any main course with rich sauce, and any dish with meat, like roast beef and mature cheeses.
