  1. Domaine Plageoles - Le Duras

Nearly black in the glass with deep red highlights. The nose is dense with ripe black fruit and smoky notes of wood backed by dried savoury herbs. The palate is a rich and delectable expression of concentrated red and black fruit flavours hewn to a sturdy wood frame. This powerful, yet elegant red exhibits layers of depth and complexity, it finishes with supple mineral infused tannins.

  2. Petite Burja Malvasia 2012

Not for the faint of heart wine drinker but rather more suitable for the I'm-not-afraid-of-deeply-coloured-yellow-wines type. An idiosyncratic dry white blend from the Burja winery. Winemaker Primož Lavrenčič, apprenticed at the lovely Burgundian Leroy estate and has taken this experience back to Slovenia where he focuses on native white grapes of the region. Dry, earthy, with yellow plums, dried sage, bay leaves and endless adjectives that will elicit a reaction out of anybody with a palate.

Distinctive and interesting palate, very crisp malic, again like biting into an apple, but a fuller mid-palate with notes of lemon grass and citrus. Herbaceous finish, quite persistent.
