  2. Clos Baquey

Wow this is big and beautiful. It’s undeniably dense yet also quite crisp. Lovely ripe open nose with dark fruits, minerals and a hint of green foliage. The palate is savoury, quite firm and tannic with a spicy, leafy edge to the tight ripe fruits. Very tannic and structured with good acidity. You could certainly drink it now, ideally next year, but you could also cellar it for at least five years with confidence.

  3. Château Tournefeuille Lalande de Pomerol - Seán Gilley © 2011

This 2015 is very impressively elegant and is a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. It is aged 12 months in oak barrels. The dark ruby red colour matches the cassis, soft fruits and plum aromas. On the palate, the balance is perfect and the tannins are succulent. Soft finish, where flavours last and last.

Very intense dark ruby with a brooding, black centre; massively structured with powerful tannins and serious oak treatment harmoniously woven into a tapestry of richly fruited layers. Superbly crafted with plush dark fruit and tightly knit structure boding well for a long life. 6. Blunt

Blunt is made by Joan Soler, a very well known young winemaker from the tiny DO Pla de Bages in Catalonia. Soler had the idea of creating a wine with a difference from the common outlook. He wanted to express the freedom of what already exists in nature rather than imposing the ‘creator’s ego’. This is when the poetic side of Joan Soler shines through; this wine is a living creature. Blunt embodies softness, purity of fruit, gentleness and overall extreme beauty, charm and refined elegance.

  7. Cháteau Kefraya - Comte de M

Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, a touch of Mourvèdre and Carignan, a selection of the best vineyards at 1,100 metres. Aged in all new French oak. Lots of spicy oak here, lots of toast and a touch of marzipan, quite buttery. The fruit has a lovely dry extract richness and smoothness, with plum and cherry melding with tobacco notes and some chocolaty density to the tannins. Smooth and rich and very young. 90/100.

  8. Johnsons Block Shiraz Cabernet

Johnson's Block is a dry grown vineyard in the heart of the terra rossa. The first vines were planted there in 1925. The 2004 Wynns Coonawarra Estate Johnson's Block Shiraz Cabernet is a tribute to Johnson' vineyard and the excellent fruit that is produces. The wine is a traditional style, with red fruits and black pepper, framed by fine tannins. This wine was matured for 15 months in a combination of new French and one-year-old American oak. Deep purple with crimson highights. The wine shows a very lifted nose with aromas of raspberry seeds, red fruit and violets. Cherry and raspberry fruit flavours flood across the creamy oak palate. Rounded tannins and delicate nutty, walnut flavours make for a complex wine with a light, powdery tannin finish. Lingering flavours of smoky oak, strawberry and fennel complete this delicate, elegant, almost ethereal offering.

  9. Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon

This wine shows deep dense plum colour with great density. The nose opens with anise and spice before moving into rich layers of blackberry and cherry compote. All that great concentrated fruit is beautifully complemented with barrel tones of vanilla and clove. It is quite youthful and lively on the palate with a good firm acid core - great for food pairing - and abundant velvety tannin. Complex layers of black fruits through the mid palate, with good barrel spice underlayment throughout, are nicely complemented by bright red fruit on the finish. This wine is quite approachable so young, but it will definitely improve with additional time in the bottle, if you've got the patience. If you do plan to drink it now, I'd recommend decanting it in order to help it open up even more.
