Nearly black in the glass with deep red highlights. The nose is dense with ripe black fruit and smoky notes of wood backed by dried savoury herbs. The palate is a rich and delectable expression of concentrated red and black fruit flavours hewn to a sturdy wood frame. This powerful, yet elegant red exhibits layers of depth and complexity, it finishes with supple mineral infused tannins.

Not for the faint of heart wine drinker but rather more suitable for the I'm-not-afraid-of-deeply-coloured-yellow-wines type. An idiosyncratic dry white blend from the Burja winery. Winemaker Primož Lavrenčič, apprenticed at the lovely Burgundian Leroy estate and has taken this experience back to Slovenia where he focuses on native white grapes of the region. Dry, earthy, with yellow plums, dried sage, bay leaves and endless adjectives that will elicit a reaction out of anybody with a palate.

Demoiselles de Falfas has a very feminine character. Mainly made with Merlot from young vines this is a round, generous and crunchy wine full of black fruits. Vibrant and rich on the palate with discreet toasty notes.

Bright medium yellow colour. Clean, open and aromatic nose with an incredibly pronounced aroma of fresh green apple. Distinctive and interesting palate, very crisp malic, again like biting into an apple, but a fuller mid-palate with notes of lemon grass and citrus. Herbaceous finish, quite persistent.

Pale golden colour. Lovely enticing fresh nose, like a late spring crisp morning. Hint of apricots from the 20% Roussanne Good length, very attractive mouth filling wine, with fine attack. Very good alternative to Chardonnay. Lovely aperitif, or to accompany with fish or chicken.

Alain Graillot stormed in the Crozes wine scene in the mid-80’s, and by the end of the decade seemed to be producing the best wines of the appellation. A dip followed in the early 90’s, but since the second half of the decade, Alain Graillot is back in impressive form. 100% syrah, this dark red-coloured wine is dense and filled with blackberry, loganberry with hints of tar and game. This wine oozes power through a lengthy, driven finish. The fruit is ripe and plentiful with notes of mineral, toast and garrigue.

With a high proportion of Merlot the wine is quite forward showing wild berry fruits and dark plums on the palate. Château Falfas spent nearly twelve months in oak barrels. A firm wine with plenty of depth, concentration and good balance. A splendid wine, vigorous and pure.
