  1. `Gran Selezione`

The nose on the 2006 Isole e Olena Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is dark and almost sensual, showing a mix of rich raspberry and cherry, followed by notes of plum, savory herbs, tobacco, hints of forest floor and mint. It is savory on the palate with silky textures contrasted by a spine of brisk acidity, resulting in a toothsome experience with dried cherry, exotic spice, tobacco and a hint of citrus. The finish is long, yet structured, showing dried red fruits, spiced orange and mountain herbs. (95 points)

  2. Vieux Chateau Certan

After the explosion of truffles, earth, bitter chocolate, wet forest, cherry and hints of floral notes, the wine was pure silk on the palate. The spicy, red cherry finish was sublime.

  3. Cockburn Vintage Port 1955

'A classy Port, showing all the elegance and wonderful fruit a top 1955 has to offer. Medium red with a light rim, cherry and spice on the nose, medium-bodied, with elegant cassis, tomato and fruit flavours and silky tannins on the finish. Defines finesse.' 90 points from the Wine Spectator…

  4. La Landonne Côte Rôtie

"This is packed for the vintage, with dark bittersweet chocolate and espresso leading the way for the core of dense fig paste, hoisin sauce and mulled blackberry fruit. The long, smoky finish lets charcoal and iron notes play out, with a very grippy finish. Best from 2012 through 2030."

  5. Sassicaia

"Explodes onto the palate with masses of rich, opulent fruit that caress the palate with gorgeous length and a seamless beauty that is hard to fully capture. Dark wild cherries, plums, spices, minerals and herbs develop in the glass. This is an especially bold, perhaps slightly uncharacteristic Sassicaia in its extroverted personality, but it is beautiful all the same. The inner perfume and sweetness carries through the long finish, where the sheer weight and glycerol of the fruit leaves a lasting impression. The 2001 is more than a worthy follow-up to the profound 1997. While it may lack that wine’s freshness, structure and potential longevity, the 2001 is immensely appealing today, and should drink beautifully pretty much out of the gate. That said, Sassicaia is always the most restrained of Bolgheri’s heavy hitters. This is a superb effort from Tenuta San Guido."

  6. Carruades de Lafite

"A classic example of a second wine, the 2005 Carruades de Lafite reveals a dark ruby hue with some pink showing at the rim. The moderately intense nose of graphite, forest floor, and sweet black currant fruit is followed by a medium-bodied, elegant wine with light to moderate tannin. Drink it over the next 10-15 years." 7. Guigal "La Turque" Côte Rôtie

The 2007 Cote Rotie La Turque appears stronger than La Mouline at this stage (as La Turque often does at age 12 months, regardless of the vintage). Boasting stunning graphite, chocolate, blackberry, incense, and camphor characteristics, this is a meaty, full-bodied, remarkably concentrated, fabulously intense and pure wine. Robert Parker 98 points.

  8. Domaine Georges Roumier, Chambolle Musigny

The Chambolle Muigny 2012 village from Roumier is still youthful – but also unexpectedly open and ready to please. The bouquet fresh and playful red berry fruit with some darker notes of blue berries and cassis. On the palate juicy red berry fruit – quite vibrant, rich and airy – with a slight candied note. It’s quite accessible and red fruited for the age – has lovely balance and length for this level. Really adore the nerve and juicyness in this wine …. a fine, complex and beautiful 2012 from Roumier. Classic Chambolle!
