  1. Quinta Vale Veados

A wonderfully fresh and generous red made by winemaker Rui Reguinga. Rui is a perfectionist and one of the most respected Portuguese winemakers. Quinta Vale Veados “Deer’s Valley” is located in the heart of the Tejo area - north east of Lisbon - on ancient royal hunting grounds. A superb blend of Touriga Nacional (70%) and a dash of Syrah. Grapes are hand harvested. This medium bodied wine is partially aged in French oak barrels for 8 months. It shows very good aromatic complexity with ripe spicy fruit character and notes of ripe figs and prunes. Soft, round and well balanced on the palate. A delight with red meat and game. Top class at the price.

Vibrant purple crimson, this Syrah has layers of complexity starting with ripe blackberry, black pepper and an underlying vein of vanilla from French oak. On the palate, the wine is precise, structured and concentrated, with refreshing acidity and fine tannins. The result is a rich and voluminous Syrah, which can be drunk now or cellared.

  4. `Gran Selezione`

The nose on the 2006 Isole e Olena Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is dark and almost sensual, showing a mix of rich raspberry and cherry, followed by notes of plum, savory herbs, tobacco, hints of forest floor and mint. It is savory on the palate with silky textures contrasted by a spine of brisk acidity, resulting in a toothsome experience with dried cherry, exotic spice, tobacco and a hint of citrus. The finish is long, yet structured, showing dried red fruits, spiced orange and mountain herbs. (95 points)
