Heredad San Andres Sir Cupani, 2020
From Tempanillo bush vines planted in 1982 in a single plot at Finca San Andrés in the village of San Vincente de la Sonsierra in Rioja Alta. Winemaker Miguel Eguíluz’s father solely selects and picks the bunches. Only the premium bunches from the best vines are picked each vintage. His selection criteria is to choose the perfectly ripened bunches that are best exposed to the sun from east to south until 5pm, what he calls “uvas de mediodía”. Grapes are manually destemmed and fermented in 1.500 l. stainless steel vats. Malolactic in new French-oak barrels. Aged on its own lees for 15 months. Nor or very little batonnage is practised at the winery, as protection against oxidation occurs naturally on its own with approximately 5cm of lees in each barrel.
This is a spectacular wine displaying coffee and cocoa notes, as well as pristine ripe dark berries. Profoundly ripe Tempranillo. Rich full-bodied, explosive, and remarkable with polished tannins. This wine incredible’s fruit purity is a testament to meticulous selection. Precision and suppleness on the finish along with lovely freshness.
