Pinots Blacks is the coming together of three winegrowers and one restaurateur:

  • Bruno Verret, winemaker in Saint Bris, Chablis, Auxerre, and Irancy
  • Thomas Pico from Domaine Pattes Loup in Chablis (whose wines are imported by Terroirs)
  • Damien Delechéneau from Domaine de La Grange Tiphaine in the Loire (whose wines are also imported by Terroirs)
  • Fabien Espana from the restaurant ‘Au Fil du Zinc’ in Chablis

But first and foremost, Pinots Blacks is the story of a solid friendship and a shared passion between  four companions. Their common dream was to produce a Pinot Noir, although neither Thomas Pico nor Damien Delechéneau grow this cépage on their estates.

The adventure began with a single hectare of Pinot Noir, located on the splendid terroir of Irancy, in the village of Saint Bris Le Vineux, and which was provided by Bruno Verret. Irancy is a rather small and unsung appellation, located south-west of Chablis, and planted with a notable proportion of Pinot Noir.

From the time the vines were planted, the foursome have been farming their vineyard according to biodynamic principles.

2018 marked the release of their first vintage, which was produced in Thomas Pico’s cellar. Their wines are brimming with personality and vitality, offering an elegant and velvety structure. These are the reflection of the dedicated labour provided by this close-knit group of friends.

Pinots Blacks is a humanly endearing project that benefits from the aptitude and expertise of each member of the group, as well as capturing their unique savoir-faire.
