"The citrus-coloured 2016 Savennières Fidès is lovely clear and elegant on the aromatic nose where concentrated lemon, white and yellow-fleshed fruit flavours are displayed, along with a strong mineral background. On the palate this is a very elegant, yeasty, creamy textured and lemon-fresh Chenin Blanc with some limestone features. The wine is complex and reveals a remarkable finesse, and lingering salinity and tension. Great purity and drinkability.
Savennières is a tiny sleeping beauty of an appellation created in 1952, southwest of the city of Angers in the Anjou area of the Loire Valley. The only grape variety grown there is Chenin. 36 producers farm 140 hectares of vines planted on schist, sand and volcanic soil.
