La Bastide du Claux 'Le Claux' is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre with average vine ages of 60, 40 and 80 years respectively. The wine is aged on its lees for 15 months to add richness and complexity. (the Syrah is aged in oak barrels - 228l and 700l - and the Grenache and Mourvèdre are aged in tanks). Yields are quite low: 28hl/ha. Le Claux is poised with an elegant structure and rich, almost savoury fruit. A true delightful gem.
While born and reared in Chassagne-Montrachet, Sylvain Morey made his first wines in the Luberon where he set up Bastide du Claux, in 2002. In 2014, he inherited four hectares in the Côte d’Or from his father and he established Domaine Sylvain Morey.
Both in the Luberon and Burgundy, Sylvain Morey produces wines of great depth and purity using technology judiciously to back up tradition.
